Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

The Engineering team in Fiber Glass Systems Plymouth office currently uses Autodesk Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to model free surface and closed system flow simulations to extract forces and pressure to aid in more realistic finite element studies as well as aid in system optimization.

We recently used Autodesk simulation to extract the current forces during peak flow on a newly designed FRP aqueduct to study the dynamic response to ensure serviceability conditions were met.

Examples of CFD Projects Portfolio:

  • Standedge Tunnel twin Aqueducts – 11m x 2.8m twin structure weighing 5.5 tonnes each capable of carrying 60 tonne of flowing water.
  • MET Office 8M tall weather balloon shed. The structure was optimized to allow weather balloon releases in up to 50 mph winds.
