Offsite Build
- The largest Thermoplastic CSO in the UK?...

Apr 08,2019

November saw the installation of the largest combined sewer overflow chamber built to date by Fiber Glass Systems.  This impressive structure had internal dimensions of 12.5M x 4.5M x 4M and was built at the our manufacturing facility based in Plymouth.

Our customers’ specific design requirements not only demanded a lightweight alternative to the traditional concrete structures often utilised, it was also vital that the chamber was installed on site with minimal disruption to the general public. Site operative’s time within the excavation is greatly reduced as all major works is completed off site.

Situated in the busy Gower Street in Wigan, the site is a popular through fare for local traffic and pedestrians alike.  Traditional on site build in concrete would have resulted weeks of site works and traffic management but with our fast track installation of reinforced thermoplastic offsite build products, this resulted in the CSO being delivered and installed within the excavation in one day minimizing traffic management and on site works.

Designed for use in a Storm Water flood prevention scheme, the CSO was fabricated from high density polyethylene (HDPE) and was supplied complete with factory installed Longwood Mechanical screen, access platform, ladders, benching, weir wall, integral rebar reinforcement and shuttering.

We think this is the largest thermoplastic CSO chamber built to date in the UK – are we right? – please let us know!
